Lego 6212 X-Wing (2006 version)

Lego set 6212 X-Wing (2006)

This is the Lego Star Wars X-Wing, set 6212 that Lego released in 2006.  The X-Wing Fighter is one of the iconic Star Wars symbols from the original movies, and this set portrays the fighters from The Empire Strikes Back.

There have been several X-Wing models from Lego since the first one came out in 1999 with the yellow-headed Biggs minifigure.  The latest revision came out in 2012, which is perhaps the most accurate set yet.  But you can still get hold of Lego 6212 on Ebay, and the minifigures are more collectable than the new ones.

“This is Red 5, I’m going in” – Luke Skywalker

Mainly white and gray, with some red bricks, the X-Wing is made from 437 pieces and is a fairly good model overall.  It will take around an hour max to build and shouldn’t give too many challenges.  It has an opening cockpit for either Luke or Wedge, and the R2 unit sits in behind.  The wings can be locked in attack position by turning a mechanism at the back, and the landing gear folds up.

Other than that there is not much to the Lego X-Wing Fighter.  The best thing is the 6 minifigures you get, which are Luke Skywalker, Wedge Antillies, Han Solo, Princess Leia, Chewbacca and R2-D2. These are all nice minifigures and now quite collectable, especially the Princess.  (The R2 unit in this set is one of the best). They don’t have the facial expressions of the newer figures but you can’t have everything!

If you compare it to the latest X-Wing set 9493 this one doesn’t look quite as good, the wings are a bit flimsy and there are less features.  It’s a hard choice, if the new set had better minifigures I would recommend that one, but as it is maybe you need to decide yourself.

If you are looking on Ebay for this set you can still get new boxed sets for around 60 GBP or 60 USD.

Aidan’s opinion: Lego 6212 X-Wing

Nice set, but not the best in the world.

This set looks really good with it’s mixture of white and dark red, but the wings are a bit flimsy, and the laser canons are very simple.  Another problem with it is that it looks very squarish and chunky.

At the end of the day, it’s an OK set, not very playable or good looking.
